Avolites at Florence and The Machine

Having secured their album Lungs at no. 2 in the charts, Florence and the Machine are one of todays freshest bands to date. Launching their UK tour of O2 Academy venues from Bristol on September 17th the band culminated their tour this month with two nights at Brixton. Ed Warren, of Next Level Lights Ltd, mixed the lights on Avolites Diamond4 using equipment supplied by PRG.

The lighting consisted of a versatile rig and floor package due to certain height and truss restrictions. In all the Brixton set-up was made up of a UV backdrop, a massive starcloth, a 15 foot crescent moon, a followspot. While the rest of the lighting rig used seven ipix bb7s, eight x VL3000 spots, four atomic 3000 with scrollers, four by 4-way moles, four ACL bars as well as six upright 6-10foot towers each with one BB7, two x VL3000 spots, one atomic3000 and two mr16 batons.

Warren added that the whole ensemble came to him in a dream about a baroque bedroom in space which, by all accounts, could be seen largely through the grandly lit bird cages and deep rich colours - creating a certain art nouveau experience. Florences input had little else to do with it other than her absolute faith in his expertise to get it right; and few could say he didnt. Florences flamboyant performance flirted well with Warrens frequent choice of backlighting, adding depth and drama to her set with faultless timing.
