The Power Cube is Snow Joke for Varsity

Tuesday, March 9, 2010 || Avolites

Newly formed lighting, rigging and consultancy company Live Technical Services Ltd. recently participated in 2009s Varsity, Oxford and Cambridge University ski trip in Tignes; a sell out event which takes place for its crowd of 2,500 strong students. Directors Tim Smith and Howie Clark soon found the Power Cube and Pearl Expert made for the perfect package to provide a complete lighting solution for their one man band as only Tim was allowed on site.

Smith first used the Power Cube during the Kyran Brackens Ice Party in Bournemouth, but it wasn't long before he took the Power Cube out on the road. When asked about his Power Cube experience Smith commented: Its everything I had been waiting for in one box with the fast responsive dimmers, standard art 2000 control over your curves, a hot power bay, plus data distribution; I was biting Avolites hands off to try one of these! He also boasted of its versatility, commenting on how portable he found it, plus its many possible applications, from conferences to festivals. Meanwhile, clients think its a sexy, high spec bit of kit!

LTS worked with Igoe Pa Hire and Okoru Alpine Events amidst the French Alps. Running for six days the Power Cube powered and pre-heated all 12 blinders, ran hot power to the 8 channels by 2 kws and gave full data distribution for the event via Ethernet In and DMX Out. The rig also included 10 Martin Mac2000 Profile, 4 Robe 575 AT Zoom Wash, 6 Martin Pro 918 Scanners, 6 Martin Atomic 3000 Strobes, 38 MilTec 4-segment LED Battens, 12 two Cell Blinders and four Parcans Smith continued: I wanted maximum impact from as little equipment as possible. The structure of the roof looked like a festival stage so I went for a powerful look using the 1200w 2ks to cut gobos through the power of the atomics and blinders. 918s added a nice fast crisp movement to the stage, allowing the 2ks to spread the audience/roof etc. The Pearl Expert was the obvious choice of console due to it being a compact desk with the functionality of something much bigger. The event played host to a pool of musical talent from Kissy, Pendulum, Chase and Status alongside resident DJs and Urban Knights. Plus, of course, outstanding lighting and effects essential to a top-notch show!
